Is Luggage Countable or Uncountable?
Luggage refers to bags and suitcases used for travel. It is an uncountable noun and should not be used in the plural form:
✅ I need to pack my luggage for the trip.
❌ I need to pack my luggages for the trip.
✅ Please keep an eye on your luggage at the airport.
❌ Please keep an eye on your luggages at the airport.
✅ The tour group arrived with a lot of luggage.
❌ The tour group arrived with a lot of luggages.
✅ How much luggage do you have?
❌ How many luggages do you have?
Like other uncountable nouns, luggage takes a singular verb:
✅ Her luggage was too heavy to carry alone.
❌ Her luggage were too heavy to carry alone.
✅ Make sure your luggage is properly tagged.
❌ Make sure your luggage are properly tagged.
✅ There is some luggage by the entrance that needs to be moved.
❌ There are some luggage by the entrance that need to be moved.
If you need to quantify luggage, you can say piece(s) of luggage or some luggage. Do not say a luggage:
✅ She lost a piece of luggage at the airport.
❌ She lost a luggage at the airport.
✅ They travelled with three pieces of luggage each.
❌ They travelled with three luggages each.
✅ We left some luggage in the car.
❌ We left a luggage in the car.
